How We Serve
Program Summary
The Lions Club of Reston, VA, exemplifies their motto “We Serve” by enhancing the community’s quality of life. They provide vision screenings and support eye health, assist local schools and youth programs through scholarships and events, aid seniors and the disabled with social events and advocacy, and respond to disasters by offering relief supplies and assistance. The club’s commitment to service makes a positive impact on individuals and families in Reston, embodying the spirit of community support and care.
LIONS SERVE THE COMMUNITY
Lions are supporting the Reston/Herndon/Great Falls community through a variety of efforts. We reach out to serve the community on a variety of levels and in a varitey of activities including:

Conduct and participate in various Health Fairs and schools in the Reston/Herndon area, screening people and students for vision and hearing problems and other medical conditions.

Provide eye exams and eye glasses for people who cannot afford them. 85 people served since July 2018.

Provide hearing exams and hearing aids for people who cannot afford them.

Collect and Recycle eyeglasses. We collect and refurbish old, discarded eyeglasses and hearing aids through the Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centers in Falls Church and the Hearing Aid Bank in Arlington. Finished products are distributed locally and overseas to centers of great poverty in developing countries.

Support Youth Groups (Leos, Boy Scouts, Eagle Scout projects, etc.) in Herndon and Reston.

Conduct the James Bland Music Scholarship Competition, a local and state-wide music competition for elementary through high school students to earn college scholarships.

Supported and taught English as a Second Language (ESL) classes.

Sponsor blind and deaf children to attend summer camps in Maryland and Virginia.

Support Special Olympics events and provide vision screening.

Participation in the Lake Anne Multi-cultural Festival in September
- Adopt-a-Highway and Stream clean up environmental projects
- Participate in other service projects and fundraisers throughout 14 counties in northern Virginia including the Herndon Festival, Friday Night Live and the Reston International Festival to name a few.
LIONS GIVE BACK
We help support the local communities through our Fundraising efforts including our annual Texas Holdem Tournament, Citrus sale and Yard Sales to name a few. All of your donations are tax deductible and all of the funds collected go back into the community to support programs including but not limited to:

Hearing restoration research at UVA.

Eye Clinic at Inova Fairfax Hospital.

Northern Virginia Lions Youth Camp near the Shenandoah River.

Eye exams, glasses, hearing aids for individuals who cannot afford them.

Food donations to local food pantries.

Support for the state Eye Bank and promotion of eye donations for transplant and research.

Support Literacy by purchasing and distributing books.
